Birmingham School Games 2017
On Thursday the 9th of February, 74 students from our academy went to take part in the Birmingham School Games. Competitions included Handball, Football, Futsal, and Rowing. We went up against many other schools from across Birmingham, there were so many other teams there.
The rowing events of the day were extremely tough! There were three rounds for each year group. The first round consisted of three minutes of rowing, and you had to row really fast and try to stay ahead of everyone else. The aim of this round was to make it to the finals, where you had to row for five minutes! Many of our teams got through. This was probably the toughest part as after a few minutes, we felt very tired and our legs ached. A huge shout out to Aqsa Khan who came 2nd place in the Year 11 girls rowing finals!
We took part in Futsal, Handball and Football matches as well. We even had the opportunity to meet British Boxing WBA Super Flyweight Champion Khalid Yafai and his brother Galal Yafai. They helped open the games at the beginning and showed us some of their boxing skills too! The whole day was very exciting. It was a physically demanding day, but our team spirit and positive attitude helped us persevere. A huge well done to everyone who took part and we’re excited for next year’s games!
