Our very first Artsfest
On 10th July 2017 Ark Boulton Academy opened its’ doors for its’ very first Artsfest. Parents, community members, staff, students, and special guests joined us for food, drink and conversation whilst enjoying a selection of artwork, poetry and music created by students here at the academy.
It was a wonderful relaxed environment where guests enjoyed the entertainment in the sunshine, and had the opportunity to take part in our silent auction and bid for student artwork. All proceeds from the silent auction went to St. Basil’s - a charity supporting the young homeless people of Birmingham. We are pleased to announce that we collectively raised an amazing £370!
Once everyone had a look at the amazing artwork, enjoyed some food and listened to our poetry readers, it was time to go indoors to the main hall for our evening performances. Our music department has had an amazing year with our choir performing at the Barbican in London and our Dhol Drum groups performing at the New Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham. We heard performances from our recorders, the choir, drummers, and the brass band. We were blown away by drama and thier performance of ‘Find Me’ by Olwen Wynmark. A true story about a teenage girl suffering from mental illness and growing up 1970’s Britain. The crowd were so impressed! It was very entertaining. Our dance group also performed on their debut with a medley of songs and dance moves.
We have some great talent at this academy. We are very proud of how everyone worked so hard in the months running up to the artsfest to rehearse and prepare all the show stopping pieces of art. Setting up on the day of the event took great teamwork, and the academy looked amazing and so colourful!
"Our first ever artsfest was a huge success. A big thank you to all who attended, everyone involved and we hope to make things bigger and better next year!" Ms Crawford, Director of Performing & Creative Arts.
"I would like to thank our community for supporting us. Our students were amazing, their confidence and presence on stage was impressive, and their ability to manage the whole event so well. Our students are a real credit to our academy and parents." Mrs Channa, Principal.
