Football Stars pass on their expert tips to students
Press Release by Birmingham City Football Club
"Wes Harding and Wes McDonald passed on expert tips to local children."
Pupils from a Sparkhill school received a masterclass football coaching session led by the Blues Under-23s stars, thanks to the latest Eze Group initiative launched to put a smile on the faces of young people in the local area.
The two Wes’ delivered the training session at Ark Boulton Academy, where the youngsters – in years seven and eight – were put through their paces. The lesson included a ten minute warm-up, a skills session and various shooting drills.
The visit was arranged by Blues’ diamond sponsors, Eze Group, who recently launched the ‘Eze Smiles’ initiative, designed to reward young people in the local area.
Mr Freeman, head of P.E. at Ark Boulton Academy, said: “It was a great experience for the pupils, and gave them a flavour of what happens in a professional coaching session.
“Many of our students are incredibly passionate about football, so to have the players giving advice and offering support was really inspiring to see.
On behalf of the school, I’d like to thank Eze Group and the players for the opportunity.”
After demonstrating their footballing skills, the two players led a question and answer session with the school children, in conjunction with Birmingham City FC Community Trust.
Dominic O’Reilly, CEO of Eze Group, said: “We were delighted to have the opportunity to support Ark Boulton Academy with a training session from Blues Under-23s.
Working with the Club, we’re pleased we could provide the youngsters with a chance to hear from the players first hand on how they started off in football, and what it takes to play for Blues Under-23s – we hope they left feeling encouraged, with lots of fun memories to share with their families and friends.
We look forward to taking our work in the community beyond the stands at St. Andrew’s over the coming weeks, and putting a smile on the face of many others.”
