Ark Boulton Academy is a "Good School" - Ofsted 2017
It is with great honour that I am able to share with you that Ark Boulton Academy has been rated ‘Good’ in every category from our first Section 5 Ofsted report.
It is quite an achievement to transform an academy from Special Measures to Good in just 18 months. The dedication of our students, commitment of staff, support from our families and community, and provision provided from our governing body, has made this grading possible:
- Effectiveness of leadership and management – Good.
- Quality of teaching, learning and assessment – Good.
- Personal development, behaviour and welfare – Good.
- Outcomes for pupils – Good.
Some of the key achievements in the report that were highlighted were in leadership and governance; “The highly effective leadership of the principal and her senior team has ensured the school has improved substantially. Governance is a strength of the school. As a result, the quality of learning, teaching and assessment has improved significantly and the school’s policies are consistently applied.”
The excellent behaviour and progress of our students; “Pupils are polite and helpful. Staff prepare pupils well for life in modern Britain. The curriculum supports pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development well. The focus on the Ark Boulton virtues such as charity, honesty, courage and commitment actively promotes the development of pupils’ social skills, empathy and understanding of right and wrong.”
The quality of our teaching and learning; “Teachers have high expectations of what pupils will do and achieve. Routines and procedures are well established” and “pupils currently in the school make good progress from their starting point.”
I am excited about the next stage of our development and the journey we now embark upon which is moving our academy to outstanding. It is indeed an excellent way to mark this academic year as it comes to a close, and a timely reminder of the progress we have made as a community in supporting our mission to help our young people develop a lifelong love of learning, a sense of personal and civic pride and the confidence to not just navigate the modern world, but to shape it. The academy mission is to ensure that all of our children go on to university, pursue a career or an apprenticeship of their choice, so they are able to inspire and become role models for the younger generation and give back to their community.
I would like to take this opportunity in congratulating our staff as educators, our students as keen learners and our parents in this great achievement as “it takes a whole community to bring up a child."
Mrs H K Channa, Principal.
