The Art of Language
Students have been signing up for our MFL (Modern Foreign Language) Enrichment Clubs this term. They include the exciting cross-curricular French Cooking Class. Combining food technology with French language and speaking!
Students have learnt how to bake a cake using recipes written only in French and developed thier understanding of the language, and of course their cooking skills! Students thoroughly enjoy the experience, “something I never thought could be so much fun!”
We have introduced a new Latin Club more recently. In partnership with the University of Birmingham, two Latin students (Sarah Legg and Philippa Rubley) deliver lessons every week at our academy.
Fun Fact 1: Did you know that 60-70% of English words come from Latin? So learning Latin can really help with your vocabulary.
Fun Fact 2: Over 80% of words in languages from places like Spain, France and Italy come from Latin, so you could really improve your language skills too.
Fun Fact 3: The University of Birmingham’s motto is in Latin: 'per ardua ad alta' - 'Through hard work, great things are achieved'.
We're very excited to have the opportunity to learn such an important language at our academy with thanks to the University of Birmingham.
