Variable 20mph Speed Limit Outside Ark Boulton Academy Consultation.

Monday 16 July 2018

Information from Birmingham City Council.

Following the introduction of 20mph speed limits in three areas of the city in 2016 – City Centre (A1), Central East (A2) and Central South (A3), Ark Boulton Academy has been identified as a potential location for a variable 20mph speed limit.

The original 20mph speed limit scheme included residential roads rather than main A and B roads. Ark Boulton Academy is located within the Central South (A3) 20mph speed limit area; however due its location on a main road, it was not originally included in the scheme. After revisiting the area we think that a variable 20mph speed limit on the road outside your school would make the area safer. This would mean that the speed limit would be 20mph when lots of students are expected to be walking near the school, including at the start and end of the school day. At all other times, the current speed limit of the road would apply. Special signs will have lights which flash to show when the 20mph limit is in operation. A plan showing the affected roads is enclosed with this letter.

We would like to know what you and your school community think.
