Girls - Leaders in Sport

Tuesday 07 March 2017

We recognise the importance of engagement in sport and physical activity at our academy, for the maintenance of health, and development of skills such as social interaction, team work, and communication, to name a few.

We have partnered up with Girls Active, an initiative to help girls engage within sport and games, whilst recognising their individual needs. Girls Active are working with schools across the country to tackle the negative attitudes that girls have towards their body image, improve their attitude towards PE, and to make sport more relevant to girls’ lives.

On Friday 3rd March a group of year 9 and 10 girls organised the Girls Active event at Ark Boulton and they did a fantastic job. There were many activities taking place, and groups of students rotated between them so no one missed out. We had over 50 girls taking part! Students organised dance lessons, football coaching, cricket, and fun and games. We even held a special buffet meal for all who took part to celebrate their achievements. The students also recognised the importance of International Women's Day through this event.

“I am unbelievably proud with the level of engagement and energy from the girls. They really threw themselves in, trying new sports and making new friends. A special thank you goes to Miss Sanders and the students who helped provide the refreshments, and to all staff who supported the event.” Mrs Huckstep, Director of Health & Wellbeing.

The academy hosts enrichment clubs in all manners of interests, including different sports, every afternoon after lessons. We will continue to support this great cause throughout the years!
