Compassion means a 'sympathetic consciousness of others' distress together with a desire to alleviate it'.

By being compassionate you:

  • reduce suffering and make the world a better place
  • increase peace and reconciliation where there is conflict
  • open your heart
  • enlarge your perspective and identity by understanding yourself and others
  • increase your happiness, fulfilment and wellbeing
  • improve your relationships by inspiring loyalty and commitment
  • improve your health (strengthening your immune system, lowering stress and depression and more)

How do we demonstrate compassion?

In school:

  • By taking action when I see others are struggling and consider other people’s needs as important as my own.
  • By listening patiently, speaking calmly and behaving respectfully towards others at all times.
  • By forgiving myself and others.

During home learning:

  • By listening patiently, speaking calmly when using online technology.
