We are a seven-form entry secondary school in Sparkhill, Birmingham, which has grown from strength to strength over time.
As a working mother, I have first-hand experience of the challenges of juggling a career in the education profession along with supporting and bringing up a family. This is why we make a conscious effort to reduce workload across all areas of the academy and support teacher and staff wellbeing. We strongly believe that a happy and well supported team member will be able to deliver the best to those that they teach and meet throughout their day. This puts wellbeing at the forefront of the workday.
Our systems and processes for marking and feedback, assessment and communication are streamlined and the approaches we take are research led and based on the needs of our local context. For instance, we do not use traditional book marking or formal lesson observations for performance management purposes. Everything we do is rooted in Professional Development as we genuinely believe that we are all ‘always learning’. As such, on Friday’s pupils finish early, allowing staff the time and space for Professional Development. After these PD sessions, we encourage staff to leave early so that they are recuperated before the next week begins.
