We teach students about the importance and benefits of healthy habits as part of our Personal, Social, Health and Economic syllabus, and promote physical activity, a balanced diet and self-care activities throughout the curriculum and school life.
Healthy eating
At Ark Boulton Academy we value the importance of meal times. We know that if our students eat well they are better able to learn. We are committed to provide a healthy and nutritious meal for every child alongside the experience of eating meals in a small group alongside adults. We have an onsite kitchen where all our meals are cooked fresh each day.
We encourage our students to choose healthy food and drink options - sweets, crisps and fizzy drinks are not allowed in the academy.
We also run a breakfast club where children can get involved in a range of activities and receive a nutritionally balanced meal.
Mental health
We promote positive mental health for every student and member of staff, and have both a universal whole-school approach to mental health, together with specialised, targeted approaches for vulnerable students.
Ark Boulton offer a range of support services to help keep you safe. Alongside Welfare Tutors, the school provide access to a school counsellor and school nurse.
Physical activity
We provide every pupil with the opportunity to take part in a broad range of sports and physical activities that often go beyond the standard curriculum. The PE department runs a rich after-school timetable with professional sports coaches, where students can develop both physical and social skills.
We regularly take place in afterschool fixtures where we take sports teams to compete against other schools. These include the Ark Championships and Central Sport Partnership competitions.
Sport is used as a vessel for improving mental health. We have recently trained a group of students to become Wellbeing Ambassadors in line with the Youth Sports Trust Active in Mind so that they can work as mentors to develop the wellbeing of our students.
