Unifrog
Unifrog is an online careers and destinations platform available for all pupils in years 7 to 11 at Ark Boulton use as part of the careers programme. It enables pupils to explore how their individual interests can lead to different education, raining and career pathways. As pupils move from year 7 through the academy to year 11, they are able to track and add their experiences and encounter so that by the time they leave they have a full record of all careers linked experiences and opportunities that they have had.
For year 9 GCSE options pupils are able to explore different subject routes and year 11 are able to look at the different options available to them for post 16 study including A-Levels, T-Levels, vocational pathways and apprenticeships.
Teachers and parents also have access to Unifrog so that they can monitor and evaluate pupil engagement and progress. Looking at particular trends in subjects or careers interests. There is also up to date careers information and webinars available.
Parent engagement on Unifrog
Parent engagement on Unifrog is an effective way to involve parents in the careers conversation from year 7 onwards. Advice on different education routes, including technical educations, T-Levels and post 16 choices on Unifrog are useful for parent meetings and conversations.
Parents can also use the platform to monitor their child's activities and engage with the same tasks. Once pupil logins are set up by the school, parents receive a Unifrog email code for login to activate their profiles and begin their own Unifrog journeys.
To learn more about parent logins for Unifrog please contact the schools careers leader Ms L Crutchley.
Local market information
In our careers programme we learn from the labour market information about the key areas of growth and ensure that these are in our programme. This is important so that we are preparing our pupils for the industries and jobs that will be avalable to them in the future.
More information about LMI and key areas of growth can be found here: https://bep.education/birmingham-careers-hub/lmi/
Another great tool designed and provided by ‘LMI for all’ is the ‘Skillsometer’ widget. This application is free and can help pupils to discover what jobs they might like to do in the future based on interests and skills-based learning. The widget provides a set of statements alongside 5 emojis for pupils to rate how they respond to the skill in question.
Students should familiarise themselves with Unifrog and use this to explore labour market information. Each student can develop a career and subject profile which then helps them to target pathways for specific careers and which pathways in further and higher education, vocational qualifications or apprenticeships would be suitable to access their destination of their choice. There is a rolling task list for all students which helps teachers to monitor and encourage engagement more closely.
