Why do we learn Physical Education?
In addition to a healthy diet, it is essential that we teach pupils the importance of physical activity so they can become healthy, active role models for their families. We help pupils develop fundamental motor skills that can be applied to a range of activities. Physical Education is a place where pupils can explore and find their physical activity that will inspire them to participate in later life. Physical activity is crucial for developing a strong and positive mental health, and through challenges and competition students develop resilience, motivation and commitment. The physical, emotional, and social rewards are endless. We offer a range of enrichment clubs and sports fixtures for those who want to pursue their passion outside of the classroom.

Our Approach
A high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities. At Ark Boulton Academy we provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.
Phase/Key Stage introduction(s)
The Ark Boulton Academy Physical Education curriculum aims to ensure that all pupils:
- develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
- are physically active for sustained periods of time
- engage in competitive sports and activities
- lead healthy, active lives
Our cohesive and thoughtfully sequenced curriculum supports pupils to become secure in three conceptually distinctive but functionally connected pillars of progression. These are:
- motor competence – knowledge of the range of movements that become increasingly sport- and physical activity-specific
- rules, strategies and tactics – knowledge of the conventions of participation in different sports and physical activities
- healthy participation – knowledge of safe and effective participation
so that pupils are able to achieve these aims and flourish in their learning of Physical Education.
