Why do we learn Physical Education?
In addition to a healthy diet, it is essential that we teach pupils the importance of physical activity so they can become healthy, active role models for their families. We help pupils develop fundamental motor skills that can be applied to a range of activities. Physical Education is a place where pupils can explore and find their physical activity that will inspire them to participate in later life. Physical activity is crucial for developing a strong and positive mental health, and through challenges and competition students develop resilience, motivation and commitment. The physical, emotional, and social rewards are endless. We offer a range of enrichment clubs and sports fixtures for those who want to pursue their passion outside of the classroom.

Our Approach
Pupils learn a variety of different sports and physical activities during their time at Ark Boulton. We allow pupils to the skills and rules needed for sport. Lessons provide active and enjoyable activities to develop analysis and leadership skills.
Phase/Key Stage introduction(s)
In Key Stage 3, students begin their journey to embedding the fundamental movement skills, such as running, jumping and throwing, needed to be successful in a range of sport and exercise activities. They are exposed to a variety of team games, individual sports, and fitness activities to help them find their passion for exercise and become healthy citizens. We learn about simple tactics and equip students with the skills to analyse and evaluate their own and others performances.
In Key Stage 4, student broaden their range of skills learning a range of advanced skills. There are given the opportunity to explore new sports to encourage lifelong participation. In GCSE students learn about the anatomy of the body and how we create movement. Components of fitness, types of training and safe practice are examples of the learning in year 10. In Year 11, students learn about the social issues in sport, for example sportsmanship, deviance and commercialisation.
